Lesson 144:Learning to F.R.O.G.

5th Kentucky Chaplain J. W. Binion

How does one become a frog? Why would one wish to be a frog? These two questions beg answers. Many years ago a congregant of mine presented me with a small stuffed frog and a story that has become the center of my message to those with whom I come in contact.

The story attached to the frog goes something like this: an elderly lady lay in her hospital bed awaiting death – doctors had told her she had but a few days to live – when one night a beautiful blonde-haired nurse came in and sat beside her. The nurse had a bright smile and twinkling eyes; she just radiated kindness and compassion. The nurse spoke with the lady for some time about Jesus Christ and His love, she handed the lady a ceramic frog and told her that she must become a frog and all would be well in her soul. The nurse explained that the frog she was talking about had nothing to do with handsome princes or warts; the F.R.O.G. about which she was speaking was Fully Rely On God.

The next morning the elderly lady awakened and felt very much better, the doctor came in for his morning visit and upon examination he found no signs of the disease, which was talking the lady’s life. The lady explained her night visitor to the doctor; he said there was no such nurse working in the hospital. The ceramic frog sat on the hospital cart next to the bed; the lady picked it up and knew immediately that she had experienced a visit from an angel of God.

This story reminds me of the words of Isaiah 40:31 – “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Our spirits will rise like eagles and be strengthened when we truly wait upon the Lord God. Don’t be misled my friends, the words “wait upon” do not mean that we are to sit patiently in anticipation of HIS return. These words are active words, they mean for us to not only believe and trust in HIM, but we are to SERVE HIM – we are to obey the great commission. We are to go into the world teaching about Christ Jesus, we are to seek out the lost, strayed and confused. We must learn to F.R.O.G.

I wish for each of you the power and strength of the Holy Spirit, the peace of being a F.R.O.G. Your servant and chaplain – Pastor J. W. Binion*

*Pastor Binion recently moved from Florida to Corbin, Kentucky, and has joined the grand 5th Kentucky ‘Orphan Brigade’ reenacting unit. He is a true chaplain, offering services in Christ’s name and intercession via prayers for the people. We welcome him and his family into our Christian circle of brothers and sisters. When you see him on the field, make him feel at home and more than likely, he will give you a ‘frog’ that represents God’s awesome power and love. God has blessed us with a man that truly believes in the power of F.R.O.G. (Fully Relying on God)! Your obedient Servant in Christ, The Old General
